Ey Reqîb (O Enemy) is the Kurdish national anthem. The poet Dildar wrote the text in 1938, in prison, and it has been sung ever since as the hymn of Kurdish nationhood: at Newroz, at commemorations, in stadiums and at protests across all four parts of Kurdistan and the diaspora. Its defiant opening declares that the Kurdish nation is alive and that no weapon of any age can break it. The anthem exists in Soranî (the original) and Kurmancî versions, and search interest in the song rises sharply every January and around Newroz. Dildar died in 1948; the text has entered the public domain, and a verified version with translations will be published here.
