Zakaria Abdulla

Zakaria Abdulla, usually known simply as Zakaria, is one of the defining Soranî pop singers of the 1990s and 2000s. His polished ballads and love songs made him a household name in Başûr and throughout the Soranî-speaking diaspora, and his catalogue remains a fixture at celebrations decades later. Zakaria stands for the moment when Soranî popular song took on modern studio production at scale and reached audiences far beyond Kurdistan through satellite television and, later, streaming.
