Tehsîn Taha

Tehsîn Taha (1941-1995) is the defining modern voice of Behdînî song. His warm baritone and carefully built repertoire raised the profile of the Behdînan region’s dialect and melodies within Kurdish music, and several of his songs became standards far beyond it. Working through decades when Kurdish music lived under pressure, he embodied a dignified, craftsmanlike ideal of the singer. His recordings remain constantly streamed, and for the Behdînî-speaking public he holds the place that the greatest classics hold elsewhere in Kurdistan.
