The most influential Kurdish voice of the modern era.

Şivan Perwer, born in 1955 in Bakur, is widely regarded as the most influential Kurdish singer of the modern era. With his tembûr and a voice built for open squares rather than concert halls, he turned Kurdish song into a vehicle of identity and memory. He left his homeland in 1976 and spent decades in exile in Europe, where his cassettes crossed borders that he himself could not. Songs such as Kîne Em, Herne Pêş and Megrî became part of the collective Kurdish songbook. His repertoire spans dengbêj-rooted laments, political anthems and love songs, and has shaped generations of singers across all four parts of Kurdistan and the diaspora.
