Şehram Nazirî, born in 1950 in Kirmaşan, is one of the great classical vocal masters of his era, celebrated across the region and on world stages for his settings of mystical poetry. Rooted in a Kurdish family tradition of sacred song, he has also recorded in Kurdish and drawn constantly on Kurdish melodic material, carrying the sound of Kirmaşan into classical concert repertoire. For this encyclopedia he marks an important boundary stone: the Kurdish contribution to the region’s high classical music, sung at the very top of that art.
