Merziye Feriqî

Merziye Feriqî was one of the beloved female voices of Soranî song in the late twentieth century. At a time when the stage was hard ground for women from her background, she built a career on a warm, expressive delivery that audiences trusted immediately, singing love songs and folk material that remain in circulation. Her death in 2005 was widely mourned; her recordings have since taken on the special glow the tradition reserves for voices lost before their time.
