Cemîl Qoçgirî
The tembûr as concert instrument: a virtuoso between traditions.

- Bakur (Qoçgirî) / diaspora
Cemîl Qoçgirî is a tembûr virtuoso and composer who has carried the long-necked lute of the Kurdish and Alevi traditions onto the international concert stage. Rooted in the Qoçgirî region’s musical heritage and trained in both traditional and conservatory settings, he writes chamber works around the instrument and has collaborated with leading voices, among them Aynur, in projects that treat Kurdish music as art music. His work widens what this tradition can be: not only song, but composed instrumental literature.
