Beytocan

Beytocan, from the Cizîra Botan region, was one of the most loved Kurdish singers of his generation, a voice at once warm and wounded that seemed to carry the Botan landscape in it. Over decades of albums and concerts, at home and in exile, he sang love songs and laments that entered the common repertoire, and younger musicians sought him out as a collaborator until the end. His death in 2023 was mourned across all parts of Kurdistan and the diaspora, with tributes from every corner of Kurdish music.
