Azad

Azad is one of the veterans of German rap: born into a Kurdish family and raised in Frankfurt, he helped define the dark, street-level sound of the genre’s formative 2000s era and built one of its most respected catalogues. His Kurdish background has run through his work and public identity across decades in which he became a reference point for authenticity in the scene. Alongside Xatar he stands for the Kurdish thread woven through the history of Europe’s biggest rap market.
